The gospel text for this week comes from John 10:11-18. This text follows Jesus’s statement about life, when he says, “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” This text, I think, can show us how the good shepherd can get us to that rich and satisfying life.
That life comes for his people when we listen to, respond to, and act on what he does. This implies an intimacy and mutual knowing that allows for transparency, where we are “naked and not ashamed” in the presence of God.
There are strong theological notes to the Trinity in this text, as well as Jesus’ role in his own resurrection.
